LUNCHTIME CONVERSATION
(not previously published)
‘Google has a project
to digitalize
every book in the world –
in one library.’
Those were my wife’s very words
flipping through Humo magazine
in search of a concert
over Sunday afternoon lunch.
She has a winning soft voice
without sarcastic innuendos
and did not expect a reaction
from me with my teeth in cheese.
She certainly didn’t get one.
Barring speculation as to whether
this planet will have exploded
by the time those books are written,
I am currently more preoccupied
with getting three budding talents
under the age of twenty-four
into A Handful of Poetry –
a volume in five sections
also featuring two old lags . . .
without the help of my computer,
without the sweat of my brains.
