{"id":1038,"date":"2017-08-31T09:49:29","date_gmt":"2017-08-31T09:49:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olioweb.me.uk\/wordpress_marcus\/?p=1038"},"modified":"2019-09-15T17:12:30","modified_gmt":"2019-09-15T17:12:30","slug":"poem-of-the-month-september-2017-a-clean-slate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.olioweb.me.uk\/marcus\/?p=1038","title":{"rendered":"Poem of the Month, September 2017: A Clean Slate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A CLEAN SLATE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One sometimes forgets<br \/>\nhow lucky one is to be alive and sober.<\/p>\n<p>One sometimes forgets<br \/>\none has a roof over one&#8217;s head<br \/>\nand a warm bed.<\/p>\n<p>I never forget<br \/>\nto feed the pigeons<br \/>\nalthough they wake up my wife.<\/p>\n<p>My hard disc registers<br \/>\nall the unhappiness<br \/>\nof the outside world<\/p>\n<p>as I clean up my own act<br \/>\nand face the music<br \/>\nof another morning.<\/p>\n<p>Stitches left undone,<br \/>\nwounds unattended,<br \/>\nappear in my patchwork life<\/p>\n<p>with the regularity of hot meals.<br \/>\nOne tries to be non-judgmental.<\/p>\n<p>Recital of nembutsu<br \/>\nand deep breaths in the garden<br \/>\nare a cure for morning blues.<\/p>\n<p>I cannot change the world,<br \/>\nthe weather, or what you think.<br \/>\nPour me a soft drink.<\/p>\n<p>One sometimes forgets<br \/>\none is an angel<br \/>\nwho has not yet learned to fly.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A CLEAN SLATE One sometimes forgets how lucky one is to be alive and sober.
