Snizzly Snouts<\/strong> is Marcus’ translation of an illustrated Flemish children’s book called Rare Snuiters<\/strong> by Jan Dewitte<\/strong>, with illustrations by Freya Vlerick<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

In very large format, it consists of a poetic alphabet of 26 weird and wonderful creatures who will make you laugh.<\/em><\/p>\n

Published in De Haan, Belgium, on 4 October 2014 and later in Dublin by the Association for the Blind.<\/em><\/p>\n

It comes with a CD of the poems and texts in braille for print disabled readers.<\/em><\/p>\n

THE JAGUAR<\/p>\n

The jaguar has spots
\nwhich are rather nice
\nI must confess.
\nMother has them too
\non her sexy dress.<\/p>\n

That her spots are false
\nshe can’t conceal.
\nMother is imitation,
\njaguars are real.<\/p>\n

THE TAPIR<\/p>\n

A tapir is a beast
\nwith a peculiar snout:
\nyou think it’s a trunk
\nbut no water comes out.<\/p>\n

He often goes round
\nmaking a trumpeting sound:
\nthen he’s pretending to be an elephant, you see<\/p>\n

THE QUETZAL<\/p>\n

The quetzal is handsome
\nand deserves his fame
\nbut I wish he hadn’t
\nsuch a difficult name.<\/p>\n

As he swoops through the air
\nwhat a marvellous sight!
\nWith his long flowing tail
\nlike a red and green kite.<\/p>\n

His beautiful colours
\nI’ll remember – and yet
\nhis impossible name
