\nThe poem was written with Owen Davies<\/strong> in three days. The handmade 1st edition of 125 copies (1975) was created with the help of Fanz Van Boxelaer, Johan Monballieu, Maria and Christine Lefever (cover design). It was sold on the streets and in the markets of Bruges.<\/em><\/p>\n
\nis a public friend,
\nblessed at a picnic lunch,
\ncrowned with the people’s flowers<\/p>\n
\nat Christmas, same as ever,
\ndreaming of orange-blossom girls
\nin Flemish classrooms long ago<\/p>\n
\nfar from Spain
\nfollow their mistress
\nas she moves
\nfrom bloom to bloom
\nin a dim Aquarian room<\/p>\n
\npierce me to the brainy root<\/p>\n
\n& breathes against the window pane
\nto all who pass

\nvoor al wie picknickt op het gras;
\nhet volk kroont zijn vriend met bloemen<\/p>\n
\ngeen haar veranderd,
\ndromend van vlassen meisjes
\naan Vlaamse lessenaars lang geleden<\/p>\n
\nvolgen ver nu van Spanje
\nhun liefste waterjuf
\nzoals van plant tot plant ze drijft
\nin de huisen van de waterman<\/p>\n
\ndringen diep in mijn grijze wortel door<\/p>\n
\nademt aan het raam voor alle passanten
