My mother was born in Multan in 1913.<\/p>\n<p>The family was posted back to the UK in 1916 and Harry served with the Lancashire fusiliers on the Western Front as a Company Sergeant Major.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-23 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.olioweb.me.uk\/echoes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/harry_hargreaves2.jpg\" alt=\"harry_hargreaves2\" width=\"275\" height=\"397\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.olioweb.me.uk\/echoes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/harry_hargreaves2.jpg 275w, https:\/\/www.olioweb.me.uk\/echoes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/harry_hargreaves2-207x300.jpg 207w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 275px) 100vw, 275px\" \/> <i>Written on back &#8211; &#8220;IT and two chums behind the lines at St. Pol &#8217;17&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n<p>He sustained a &#8220;G.S. wound face and neck. Severe jaw fracture&#8221; at Ypres on 31st July 1917 and was awarded a \u00a3250 gratuity.
