Technical Notes
  • Galleries

In January 2008 I rebuilt all of the photo galleries from scratch using Adobe Lightroom to develop (where necessary) the original files and then to create the web galleries. I recommend Lightroom!

The web site was compiled using Adobe GoLive (CS).

  • Processing

All of these images have been processed through Adobe Lightroom and/or Adobe Photoshop (currently CS5). The only manipulations have been cropping, repair of damage and dirt on negative scans, levels adjustment, colour corrections/enhancements and sharpening.

When I shoot RAW files (seldom), I convert them to DNG format for archiving and processing, using Adobe DNG Converter.

The 1978 negative monochrome film images were developed and printed by myself.

All negatives were scanned using a Minolta Dimage Scan Dual negative scanner.

  • Cameras
    • Olympus E620 (August 2009) with 14-54mm, 50-200mm, 35mm, and 25mm Zuiko lenses
    • Olympus E1 (not much used now, I'm afraid!).
    • Canon Ixus 70: carry-around camera when E620 not convenient.
    • Olympus Camedia E10 digital - now mainly used for copy-stand work, using it's live video-out function to feed a small monitor.
    • Nikon F70 with Nikon and Sigma lenses - used annually for black and white archival shots for archaeological recording.
    • Minolta X300 with a variety of Minolta, and Sigma lenses (backup to F70).

There are shots from all of the above cameras in the photo-galleries.

Bruges 1978 gallery only (and I don't have this kit any longer): Practika LTL3 with Tokina zoom (28-200mm) - my first SLR.
