Company MK is back!
Company MK is 20 years old this year! In 1992, a group of intrepid performers set up a theatre group to perform some more unusual and daring musicals, starting with Company by Stephen Sondheim. And that's what Company MK has done ever since, putting on shows as varied as City of Angels and Guys and Dolls. Production values have been high, and feedback from the audience always glowing.
Unfortunately, over the past few years, the company has fallen on hard times, and for the past two years, we haven't been able to fund a new show. However, to celebrate the 20th anniversary, we're launching a project to get Company MK back on its feet. In October, we aim to produce an . To get to that point, we need all the help we can to raise funds and produce the show.
And that's where you come in! We'd love as many people as possible to come on board to get the word out that Company MK is back in business!
Summer Concert at Alderton Castle
You may remember that the chance has come up to put together a summer concert and perform it at the castle in Alderton, South Northants (owned by the fabulous Derek Batten!). This has all come together now and so we're going audition on 29 April from around 5 pm onwards. We are looking for 10 people (probably 5 men, 5 women, but this isn't set in stone).
The concert's provisional title is Great Great Britain - a nostalgic trip through British song (though any amendments or suggestions are welcome!). The concert will be made up of music hall, wartime songs, musicals such as My Fair Lady, Me and My Girl and Half a Sixpence, G&S, comedy songs and more. The whole experience for the audience will be like a street party, with bunting, home-made cakes, flags and will finish with a last night of the proms feel. The audience brings their own chairs/rugs etc and their own picnic too, so it'll be a fantastic atmosphere in which to perform! The dates of the show are 14 and 15 July.
For the auditions, you'll need to bring a song with you that you are confident singing. Make sure you also bring the sheet music or a backing track (on CD or mp3 player) so that you've got something to sing to. If it fits in with the theme, then brilliant, but don't worry if not.
If you'd like to audition, email info@companymk.com or companymk@yahoo.co.uk with your name and contact details, and what you'd like to sing. We'll email you back with a time and of course the location of the audition! Don't worry if you can't make the audition date - we can probably come up with another time, just let us know.
Do feel free to forward this to anyone who might be interested in taking part - the more people auditioning the better! And if you're not a performer, there are still lots of ways to take part - we'll need a team of people to help run the production. If that's your thing, then email info@companymk.com or companymk@yahoo.co.uk and let us know!
The Company MK Steering Group and
The Anniversary Project Group
Our versatile and imaginative group re-forms itself for every production, and we hold auditions for each new show, which means that we can attract the best talent available in the area. We started this policy with Company in 1992, and continued with subsequent productions, the more recent being A Slice Of Saturday Night and Into The Woods in 2002, and Closer Than Ever and Little Shop Of Horrors in 2003, Oh What A Lovely War! in 2004, The Boy Friend in 2005, Ladies 'n Love and Assassins in 2006, The Importance Of Being Earnest - our first play - in 2007, followed by Buddy. In 2008 we produced Death of a Salesman and City of Angels. In 2009 we produced And the World Goes Round and Stepping Out - the Musical, which we took on tour to village halls - a first for us!
